Radiant Barrier Foil Insulation

Radiant Heat Barrier: How it Works
A radiant barrier works by reflecting or blocking heat energy rather than trying to absorb it. It also acts as a physical blockade against convective air flow. Using reflectivity and emissivity, a radiant heat barrier is an effective measure against radiant heat.
Radiant barriers must have at least 3/4 of an inch on either side to be effective at blocking radiant heat. This space prevents conductive heat transfer. If the barrier does not have at least one air space on either side of it, it will not offer its intended protection as heat will transfer from the barrier to the next surface touching the barrier on the other side.
Our radiant barriers are classified by the Department of Energy, meeting DOE standards requiring low emittance (10% or less) and high reflectance (90% or more). The barriers reduce heat transferred from attic to living spaces by 16-42%, extend the life of air conditioning units, increase the comfort level of the space, and reduce energy costs for heating and cooling bills up to 17%.
No breathing apparatus or special equipment is required for installation, and radiant heat barriers from RadiantGUARD® are non-toxic and non-carcinogenic. Unlike many types of insulation, these barriers do not promote the growth of fungi or bacteria and provide no nest support for rodent or insect pests.
