Reflective Barrier Insulation Ratings
Reflectivity and emissivity are measured to determine the effectiveness of all reflective barrier insulation products. See the Radiant Barriers 101 page to understand what these two terms mean, or give us a call at 866-528-8412 (or try out our Live Chat) and we'll be happy to explain the specifics.
Reflectivity and emissivity are measured together and the total is 1. Reflectivity is measured between 0 and 1, as is emissivity. Ideally, the number for reflectivity is nearly 1 and the number for emissivity is nearly 0. This means that the material used as reflective barrier insulation is highly efficient at reflecting heat back toward it source, while a very low emissivity means that the barrier does not absorb and transfer heat into and through itself. Not all radiant barriers are alike. To determine the performance, review the product description provided by the manufacturer. RadiantGUARD products reflect 95-97% of radiant heat, which is considered excellent.
